PRACTICAL GUIDE
Where should a long
product image be split?
A storefront may require several files even when the detail page was designed as one long image. The useful question is not how to make equal-height slices. It is how to avoid text, prices, faces, products, and other important boundaries while keeping every output within the marketplace's current limits.
1. Verify the destination requirements first
Allowed width, file size, and format vary by marketplace and can change. DetailCut's 860 × 5000 defaults are only a starting point. Check the latest seller documentation, then enter the dimensions that apply to your listing.
2. Inspect every suggested boundary
DetailCut looks near each target height for a horizontal row with less visual change. That can help it find whitespace or a quiet background, but it cannot understand the meaning of a sentence or product composition.
- No line of text is divided between two files.
- No face or important product feature sits on a boundary.
- Files 01, 02, and 03 continue in the expected order.
- Each file meets the destination's size and width limits.
3. Choose smart or fixed-height cuts deliberately
Use quieter-seam search when the design has visible space between sections. Turn it off when the source was already designed in exact-height units or every output must have a consistent height.
4. Keep the editable original
The exported slices are JPG files, so transparency and editing layers are not preserved. Keep the original PSD, PNG, or long JPG separately and treat the DetailCut ZIP as a publishing copy.
If you do not want to upload the source
The free tool performs the split and ZIP creation in the browser. It does not contain an image upload server, analytics API, cookies, or browser storage.
Frequently asked questions
Can I split a long product image for free?
Yes. DetailCut's free edition splits one JPG, PNG, or WebP image in your browser and downloads numbered JPG files in a ZIP.
Does DetailCut upload my image?
No. The free edition has no image upload server, analytics API, cookie, or storage path. Processing happens in your browser.
Which image dimensions should I use for a marketplace?
Check the current seller documentation for the marketplace. The defaults are starting values, not a guarantee that an upload will be accepted.
How does automatic seam selection work?
DetailCut searches the final portion before each maximum height for a horizontal row with less visual change. It does not understand image meaning, so inspect every boundary before publishing.
